Daniel Silbert believes in letting moments unfold naturally and in embracing the beauty of spontaneity. He uses both digital and film formats for his photography however, his true passion lies in film photography. He has his own darkroom where he personally develops, scans and prints all his work. Daniel Silbert is based just outside of New York City and captures weddings across the US.
Tell us about your business!
I have been documenting weddings for 12 years with a sensitive and emotional grace. I strive to capture the beauty and humanity in each celebration with a myriad of cameras, lenses and formats. Iphotograph using both film and digital.
What would you like couples to know about you?
I am extremely passionate about film. I have my own darkroom where I personally develop, scan and print all my work. This process for me is extremely vital in making sure my signature is within each photograph my clients receive.
Where are you based?
I am based just outside New York City, in a lovely river town called Nyack.
Do you travel for weddings?
I love to travel for weddings. I am excited and inspired by new and unique landscapes and venues.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as documentary and emotional, while always chasing the light!
What inspires you?
I am drawn to the photographers of the past and the power that a camera can hold. The tangibility and unique character of film are a constant source of inspiration.
What motivates you to do what you do?
What motivates me is my own creative energy. The need to keep improving and sharing my unique vision. I have found that over the years is that I communicate the best when I have a camera in my hand.
How would you describe your working style?
On a wedding day I am very in tune with how my couples are feeling. I create a relaxed environment so that everyones energy to calm. I am there to make you feel at ease and therefore what I capture is truly authentic.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
I shoot both digital and film. There are benefits to both, but I am extremely passionate about film specifically. There is such a beauty and tangibility that film creates. The fact that I personally develop, scan and print my own work gives me full creative control over the final photograph.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
All of my packages are customized for the clients. I like to hear about their plans and needs so that I can create the perfect package that is unique to them and their event.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
I would have to say that the favorite service I offer is the ability to deliver film photos in the clients sneak peak they day after their wedding.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
I would love to travel up the Northeast this next year and document weddings on the New England coast.
Who is your dream client?
My dream clients are creative, fashion forward couples who put great significance on photography.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
Just have fun. Take your time to pick your vendors and then let them take the wheel. Trust in your team 100% vital in creating the perfectly imperfect event.
