Adelaide-based Sebastian Paynter has over a decade experience as a fashion photographer. Taking his fashion minded approach into wedding photography, his style is heavily influenced by his editorial background. Sebastian Paynter has a fine eye for detail and offers both film and digital photography services to couples throughout Australia, as well as worldwide.
Tell us about your business!
My business and style is heavily influenced from my fashion work, creating something unique and timeless but adding my well known friendly and personable approach. I like to think I offer a premium product with a point of difference however, also a great client experience.
What would you like couples to know about you?
I was a fashion photographer for seven years before jumping into the wedding scene. Since combining the two, it’s clear that my wedding work is heavily influenced from my time in fashion.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Do you travel for weddings?
Sure do, both nationally and internationally.
How would you describe your style?
My style is documentary with an editorial approach. I aim to provide timeless images. I have a great understanding for what works and what doesn't and how to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
What is your most memorable career moment?
Being published in both Vogue Australia and British Vogue amongst other publications and stores.
What inspires you?
Fashion is always an inspiration. Not just clothing but trends from past and present. Travel is usually a good source of inspiration too, it freshens your perspective on life and makes you see new things.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I absolutely love what I do so I don’t need much motivation. The chance to meet new couples and travel to exciting new places is always appealing. The couples you work with give you constant motivation and energy.
How would you describe your working style?
My approach is relaxed, organised and simple. I’m pretty laid back and I find that my easy going approach definitely helps me get the best out of people and builds trust between the couple and myself.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
I shoot on both digital and film. I’ve always shot film for my fashion work so it has always been something I’ve offered to my wedding clients.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
I have three main packages however, can offer custom packages if needed.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
It’s film! I’ve always shot and loved film. You simply can’t recreate it. Everyone knows there’s something special about film.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
Europe is always great but simply traveling around Australia and shooting at some of our incredible venues is always high on the list.
Who is your dream client?
Fashion forward couples who are creatives at heart, relaxed and totally in love. They appreciate good details and understand the importance of nice photos.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
It sounds simple but just enjoy it. You can make it as formal or informal as you like and set your own rules. A great wedding to me is defined by a couples energy.
