Brisbane-based Taylor Kezia's photography style is documentary-like with an editorial feel, and her true-to-tone and elevated editing is influenced by her fashion work. She offers a calming presence to her couples' day, much like an old friend would. Taylor Kezia photographs weddings Australia-wide as well as internationally and she is available to capture European weddings this summer.
Tell us about your business!
Having photographed for the past twelve years across fashion, street style and events, my love for wedding photography quickly gained a soft spot in my heart and I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I only take on a limited number of bookings in a year as I want to personally know each one of my couples and provide a positive experience from the moment they book, to after I’ve curated their final wedding gallery. I also offer a luxury fine art album add-on, as well as access to a print shop through every client gallery, and love to photograph past couples throughout their lives after the wedding; an exclusive offering to my couples.
What would you like couples to know about you?
That I’m so much more than just someone who photographs their day. When you book a photographer, you’re also booking their personality and someone who you essentially spend your entire day with. They set the tone and they’re with you for some of the most raw and emotional moments you’ll experience in your life. My past couples have often said I’m someone they feel like they’ve known forever, like an old friend that just so happens to be their wedding photographer too. The kindest of comparisons, but one I am happy to boast about.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes! Though I’m based in Brisbane, Australia I photograph weddings all over the country and internationally. I’ve also shot the European wedding circuit over the past few years, including this year. I will go anywhere my couples would like to take me!
How would you describe your style?
Documentary-like with an editorial feel. My colour grading is true to tone, yet elevated and polished. I want the moments captured from a wedding day to stay timeless for the years to come and be framed on the walls of a home.
What inspires you?
Life. Feelings. Emotions. Trends. Music. Nature. Travelling. Architecture. Fellow photographers. Then of course Instagram, because I am only human.
How would you describe your working style?
I’ve been told I bring a very calming presence on a wedding day and aim to make my couples feel relaxed and at-ease so they can just focus on having the best time. I love being both in the action and hiding in the sidelines. It’s a balance between observing and capturing the little moments; or I will give gentle guidance where needed, particularly to couples during their portrait session, as being in front of a camera can be quite daunting. I’m also able to read a room and know when I need to step in (or out). In a past life, I could have been a wedding planner, but my creative eye for capturing a moment brings me far too much joy.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
I have to say the resurgence of 35mm film and the nostalgia that comes along with it. I give the option to shoot film alongside a full digital gallery for something extra special. The fact that you can’t know what it will turn out like until I get the scans back is so exciting and the element of the unknown beauty is a feeling you can never replicate with film-like filters.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
I’m planning a personal trip to New York for early September this year and would love nothing more than to capture a love story there. As much as I love a garden, there’s just something about a unique cityscape that excites me.
Who is your dream client?
They’re confident in their own style, love a fashion moment, are not afraid to think outside of the box, place importance on the little details, and trust me completely to capture their day.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
To remember what the day is all about - celebrating the love you have for each other. Don’t feel like you need to adhere to any traditions; your day should reflect who you are as a couple and that’s all that matters. Inserting personal, meaningful, elements to your day will set it apart from the rest.
