Tell us about your business!
Hi, I’m Laura and xo Me Studio (ex-oh-mee) is my creative home.
xo Me is an ode to a love letter sign off. While falling in love with my partner, I left poems around the house, all signed with “xo _____ “ related to whatever the poem was about. Over the next few months it shifted to “xo Laura” then simply “xo Me”. I loved that xo Me also looks like “home”, one of my favorite words. A romantic in every way, it felt like the right name for my passion and business.
Where are you based?
I live on the peninsula of Door County, Wisconsin. It is a lush dreamscape surrounded by open fields, water and pink sunsets. The landscape attracts a lot of couples to marry and artists to create.
Do you travel for weddings?
I am deeply energized by new places and take on a select number of travel and destination weddings a year.
How would you describe your style?
I love to surrender to what unfolds. And make space for intentional, editorial- style portraits.
I know that how one feels when the photo is happing will shape what they feel when looking at their photos for years to come. Aside from simply wanting people to enjoy their time, this is another reason I prioritize comfort and joy whenever hitting my shutter. It is about the moment and the future moments.
If I had to define it succinctly, documentary meets editorial.
What inspires you?
Honesty, open spaces, deep conversations, blue sky, direct light, shadows, music, food scapes, movement, authenticity, textures, personal style, candle light, details, romance, quirks.
How would you describe your working style?
I see real life moments as art. Messy, moving, honest, imperfect, intentional, reverent and wild. There is beauty in it all, and letting go of the expectation and perfection is a place I strive to capture from. I am an Aries, so it is a practice.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Digital is my meat, film is my salt. I shoot mostly digital with the addition of film. Film adds unmatched depth and grit; it completes a gallery.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Yes, especially to consider ones desire for film and travel.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
New York City, Wyoming and Italy are currently top of my list.
Who is your dream client?
Open, present, authentic, kind, playful. I am drawn to those with an appreciation of connection and experience.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
Follow your gut.
Step away from the trends and boards.
Visualise how you want to feel on your wedding day, and make decisions from that place.
Nothing can happen without you.
You are the magic.
