Kindred is a New England based duo, with Elle being the lead photographer while Zach takes care of everything behind the scenes. With a passion for film photography, Elle has a spontaneous and uncontrived approach and celebrates the poetry of modern romance artfully and honestly. Kindred often captures weddings in Hudson Valley and New York and is available worldwide.
Tell us about Kindred!
We’re a married duo based in New England. Elle is the lead photographer, wielding her many film cameras while Zach edits and tackles the brunt of the behind-the-scenes of the business.
Where are you based?
New England but we often find ourselves driving to Hudson Valley or taking a train to NYC.
Do you travel for weddings?
Always!
How would you describe your style?
Storytellers with a penchant for the sacred, the absurd, and the unexpected. Sometimes a bit irreverent, always intimate and immersive, our work seeks to celebrate the poetry of modern romance artfully and honestly.
What inspires you?
Most recently we’re inspired by Daniel Arnold and Sinna Nasseri, photographers who preserve the human story spontaneously, in all its outrageousness, humor, and beauty. Historically, street photography has been at the roots of Elle’s love story with photography — From Henri Cartier Bresson to Bruce Gilden. We’re also inspired by French New Wave films, the portraits of porch life by Nicholas Nixon, the Americana of Robert Frank and Richard Avedon, and William Eggleston’s color. With Elle’s degree in fine art, she also has a heart for the classics of Caravaggio and chiaroscuro. And ultimately, the big and small displays of love, light and movement on a wedding day.
How would you describe your working style?
Unplanned and unobtrusive but personal. Elle aims to be a keen observer who immerses herself, unnoticed.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Primarily film but digital for the less artful but necessary moments.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Sure thing, we shoot many multiple day events in various locations so we’re used to crafting a custom quote, including travel, as a part of the booking process.
Who is your dream client?
Creatives with a fondness for film and who treasure fine art in all its forms — the sacred, the poetic, and the strange; kind folks that don’t take themselves too seriously but orchestrate things with intention and tender lovin’ care. Ultimately, clients that approach life artfully, recognize our artistry and seek to collaborate with us.
