Tell us about Good Day Dwyer!
Good Day Dwyer is a husband and wife team (Matt and Laura) based in Adelaide, Australia. Our one goal is to facilitate moments of pure elation, whilst stealing slices of time for you to remember forever.
What would you like couples to know about you?
We take a relaxed approach to a wedding day, with the couples happiness and enjoyment being our first priority. We are easy going and love to push the boundaries in creating something unique.
Where are you based?
We are based in Australia.
Do you travel for weddings?
Absolutely, we travel both nationally and Internationally.
How would you describe your style?
We have a documentary style, with a focus on people and emotions.
What is your most memorable career moment?
It would have to be a time in Aeteora New Zealand, capturing a beautiful wedding with one of my best friends - which included stories of horrific downpours, theft and mistaken identity! And then visiting that same lovely couple years later to meet their growing family. That was definitely a highlight!
What inspires you?
Creatively, Roger Deakins and Robert Richardson. We draw inspiration from a number of places, books, music, cinema, Magnum Photographers and other photographers outside of the wedding industry. But what inspires our souls, are people. We have a deep empathy for peoples families, their stories and how important that is to them.
What motivates you to do what you do?
Our little family is what motivates us.
How would you describe your working style?
Relaxed! We find if couples are relaxed with us, that’s when they are most likely to look their best in front of a camera or two. It also makes people feel like we are creating something together instead of having a visual parasite order them around all day!
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
We shoot both digital and film, all our personal work is shot on film and it's something we love to offer couples.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
We have several packages which cover most couples needs however, we are always open to doing custom packages.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
Film photography. Film is where Matt started and where his passion resides. For instance, Matt only uses his film cameras in his personal life, so the digital cameras only really come out for 'work'. He will take any chance to shoot film (whether still or motion) in a wedding or for any work he may be doing.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
Anywhere in Europe or Japan even!
Who is your dream client?
Anyone who has a dog or any animal for that matter!
How do you select music to your films?
We use several sources of online license platforms, for our music. We like to get to know our couples taste in music via our online questionnaires and go from there. Most of the decisions come after the day and must fit with the vibe.
Matt has a background in music and audio engineering which helps in sourcing music and mixes.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
There are only a couple of things you are really obligated to do on your wedding day, so for everything else, do what you want! If you don’t know why you’re doing some traditional practice at your wedding and it means nothing to you or your partner, don’t do it. And think about what you love and prioritise it.
