Sarbo Studio are an editorial photography and videography team, led by photographer Sarah and cinematographer Bowen. On the wedding day, Sarah and Bowen blend in, almost as guests with cameras. As a duo, it’s easy for them to travel to remote destinations and they have a range of all-inclusive packages for photo, film, video and travel inclusions. Sarbo Studio are based in Newcastle and travel worldwide to capture weddings.
Where are you based?
We’re based in Newcastle, New South Wales.
Do you travel for weddings?
We do! Each year, we spend June, July and August in Europe, capturing destination weddings. It’s a privilege to travel around the world documenting weddings.
How would you describe your style?
Over the years, we have developed a style that is artistic with an editorial approach. We always aim to create timeless imagery that can be appreciated by generations to come.
What is your most memorable career moment?
Capturing our first Italian wedding with a beautiful Australian couple - what a pinch me moment.
What motivates you to do what you do?
We absolutely adore what we do. The couples we work with always give us so much motivation. We often attract couples much the same as us, who care less about formalities and more about enjoying the moment. Our couples are often creative types who love to invest in styling and let their personalities shine through the details of their day.
How would you describe your working style?
Our on-day presence is always described as calm and easy-going. Our personalities are the perfect balance and we fit together seamlessly. On the wedding day, we blend in, almost as guests with cameras, capturing the day authentically. We like to create a comfortable space for you to be completely yourself, focusing on movement and subtle interactions. We’ll whisk you away when the light is right and then send you straight back to the party.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Sarah shoots both digital and 35mm film, while Bowen offers videography and when asked, will incorporate candid camcorder moments into your day.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
We’re so honoured to have captured weddings in Italy, France, Bali and all over Australia. A dream would be an iconic location like Palm Springs, USA or somewhere remote on an island in the South Pacific.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
I love 35mm film. My favourite galleries are the ones that you will find beautifully polished photos side by side with unpolished film photos.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
The best weddings, to me, are defined by the energy of a couple. So enjoy it! Create a day that is uniquely you and forget about the rest. At the end of the day, it’s a celebration of the two of you so let your personalities shine through.
