Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met in San Francisco in 2016 at a bar called The Sycamore and hit it right off. I am from Lithuania, and the first time we visited Europe together, so that Sam could meet my family, he proposed on a ferris wheel in my favorite city, Vienna, Austria. We were excited to get married a year from then, but the pandemic had other plans for us. While waiting for a safer time to celebrate our wedding, we bought a home in San Francisco where we currently live with our pup, Cleo.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Sam is from San Juan Capistrano, California, so it made sense to celebrate close to where a lot of our guests lived (plus the weather is much nicer than in San Francisco!).
How many guests did you have?
We had 100 guests.
Tell us about your outfits.
I purchased my first dress from Daalarna back in 2019 for the original wedding date. Once we had to postpone, I really wanted to get a second look, something super comfortable and fun. KkCo was the ideal choice. I love the timeless vintage look & dancing was so fun, as it allowed me to move freely. Sam wanted a classic simple look and got his suit at Theory . We realized it would be fun for him to change into something more vintage-y after the ceremony and the Paul Smith baby blue dinner jacket was the perfect fit.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Besides bringing all our loved ones together to celebrate, I really care about style, so I knew I wanted to select all the details myself. My vision for the overall look was super colorful, fun, but not over the top. Our venue, Casa Romantica, had a lot of natural beauty, which allowed us to add accents, but keep decor minimal. Muted wild flowers from The Bloom of Time , mismatched bridal party outfits, and twist candles from Lex Pott provided enough of a pop while not taking away from the beautiful flora and beach views at Casa Romantica. Besides that, I really wanted a fun vintage cake to go along with the wedding cake toppers that were in Sam’s family for several generations. The cake design was inspired by Pretty Shitty Cakes.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Being from Lithuania, the ongoing war in Ukraine is really close to my heart. It was not easy to celebrate with all the pain we’ve been feeling for the Ukrainian people, so it was important for us to add small elements as a tribute to Ukraine. We chose yellow and blue flutes for our toasts, included Ukrainian music in our playlists, and raised money for a Lithuanian organization called Blue/Yellow, that supports Ukrainian armed forces fighting for their freedom, via our registry.
Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?
Do what feels right, but being safe was very important to us; we did not want to be the cause of a Covid outbreak, so we asked our guests to only attend if they were fully vaccinated and encouraged everyone to test prior.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We will forever treasure our memories thanks to our incredible photographer, Malorie Kerouac. She wasn’t only amazing at her job, she was super fun to be around. I did not want her to go back to Seattle! Rachel, our planner from Joy n Company, was there for us through the original planning process, two postponements, and the final preparations. Coordinating the new dates with all the vendors was no easy task and she did it all for us, while being super positive, kind, and caring.
