Wedding | Alba & Elena

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We met in 2018, through mutual friends. We fell in love and moved to spend the 2020 lockdown together - a lesbian cliché, we know. We communicate, value, and support each other; our differences are our strengths. We travel a lot and love sharing experiences with our friends and family.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Initially, we were thinking about doing a destination wedding and keeping the guest count to a maximum of 30. But we are Italians, and people pleasers, so after some consideration we concluded that the only option was to do something more “traditional”.

Alba didn’t want a symbolic ceremony, so we needed a ceremony location that allowed a civil ceremony. We ended up at the Basilica Palladiana, in Vicenza because of its breathtaking beauty combined with the city vibe. A plus was that under the Basilica there is Bar Borsa, where we had a fantastic aperitivo with Aperol Spritz and good wine. For dinner, we chose La Favellina because it’s one of the best restaurants in the area and we wanted to give our guests a Michelin-star experience.

How many guests did you have?

The final count was 60.

What was your budget?

At the beginning of the wedding planning, we set our maximum budget to 30k. We’re happy to say that we stuck to it!

Tell us about your outfits.

Both of us knew we didn’t want a wedding dress. We wanted something elegant, that we could re-use, that was made in Italy and timeless. We also liked the idea of wearing black and white, so we went for it.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted the food to be good and the drinks to be good. And most importantly we wanted to do it together because teamwork makes dreamwork, and planning a wedding together is a pretty big quest as a couple.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted details that spoke about our city, Vicenza. That’s why we, with the help of our florists Il Nido Verde, looked at broken pieces of marble and Vicenza’s stone. The florals were a mixture of stones, flowers, and candles. Also, we wanted the flowers to have a twist, that’s why we chose to have black flowers for the ceremony and white flowers for the reception.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Our first advice is to be realistic about what you can achieve with your budget and to set a budget that you won’t regret spending.

The second piece of advice is to have a precise plan before starting to spend your budget because you don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you need to cut on things that are important to you because you made a quick decision early on.

The third piece of advice is that the experience is the only thing that matters.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Valeria D’Angelo our photographer and Silvia Sartori our videographer, were the first who knew about our wedding. We didn’t know where, or when yet, but we knew we wanted them to tell our wedding story. Besides, the fact that the photos and videos are the only thing that lasts after the wedding, Valeria and Silvia were fantastic to work with, both as humans and professionals.
