Real Wedding | Charlotte & Stewart

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We live in East London with our two sons Ralphie (5) and Ruben (3). Stewart works in Sports Recruitment, and I work in Strategic Brand Consultancy. We love living in London, we have so much on our doorstep and we both thrive in the craziness of the city!

Charlotte: I love to create, whether that’s art, cooking, or hosting a party. My other passion is fitness, I am a member of an amazing CrossFit gym (CrossFit Dawn) in East London, the community there is amazing, it’s my happy place!

Stewart: My line of work is very sport centric and I love that. I box twice a week, and our boys are starting to take up sport too, we love seeing how they grow and learn. Charlotte and I both love to travel, we try really hard to carve out time for just us and experience new places together

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Charlotte: My family have been holidaying in Mykonos for nearly two decades and we have always stayed at Petasos Beach Resort. We love Mykonos, it has such a special place in our hearts, the people are so warm and friendly, and everything from the architecture to the food strikes the most perfect balance of tradition and modernity. It felt like the perfect place for us because of the memories we have built there over the years, and it embodies everything we wanted our wedding to be; intimate, relaxed and timeless.

How many guests did you have?

10 adults, 6 children (plus us = 18).

What was your budget?

We have two parts to our wedding celebrations.

  1. Mykonos 28th September, ceremony and dinner, 18 people – budget £15-£20k

  2. London 19th October, evening celebrating at Sessions Arts Club, 110 people – budget £35-£40k

Our budget does not include: hotel costs, flights, cars, dinners and day after wedding day lunch, dress and suit costs, however.

Tell us about your outfits.

Charlotte: I knew quite quickly I didn’t want to wear white. Mykonos and the Greek islands really own white! And I’ve always loved to wear bold and vibrant colours. I had an idea of a style and shape I wanted, and my close friend Vanessa sketched this up for me and put me in contact with a great seamstress who helped bring it all to life. When we found the bright pink silk dupion in Borovick Fabrics (the oldest fabric shop in Soho, established in 1932) I knew it was the one!

Stewart: Charlotte told me quite early on that she was going to wear pink, so I knew I had to wear a neutral colour. The Mykonos suit is from Reiss, and I am having a tailor-made suit from Thom Sweeney near Saville Row for our London party in October.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

For Mykonos, keeping it relaxed, simple (but beautiful!) and small. We wanted it to be special, but we didn’t feel the need to over decorate or have lots of unnecessary extras. We really wanted to avoid the typical wedding stresses, and to enjoy every minute, but we also needed to be realistic in terms of the young children. A stiff formal day with rigid timings and fine dining was never going to work for us.

Some moments were chaotic with the children, but it was hugely romantic and joyful throughout. The lovely thing is that we remember all of it, it didn’t fly by like a lot of people often say it does, we soaked up every minute.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Our eldest son did a reading, and our youngest was the ring bearer. It was really important to us that they each had a role as these will be memories for life.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Do it for yourself, not for others’ expectations. If you want to just invite your closest family, then do it! Everyone else will get over it, what feels like the centre of the world today will soon be last week's news. If you don’t want to wear white, then don’t! Do what feels true to you, because when the moment passes, only your memories will remain with you.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

All of the vendors were great, but only now after the day do I realise just how important your photographer is! We found Yazmine May Photography on your Instagram page, and we honestly feel like the luckiest people to have been able to have her capture our wedding. She just gets it, she knows angles, lighting, poses, everything, her directions are clear and creative, but never over the top or unnatural. She just knows how to get the shot she wants, honestly she’s a magician! She’s talented enough to be photographing Vogue covers in our opinion and we had her capturing our wedding! It was honestly the best decision we ever made.
