Real Wedding | Cristina + Gonzalo

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We both met when we were in our first year at university in Madrid. We had many things in common, but it was not until a weekend trip with our university friends when we realised it was not only friendship that we wanted. After nine years together, a degree in Economics, two years abroad in Germany and London, one year living together in Madrid and lots of fun, travel and joy - we finally made the decision to marry!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

The location was probably one of the most special aspects of our wedding. Jávea is my favourite spot on Earth; I have spent every single August there since I was born. However, I never thought about marrying there until Gonzalo suggested it. My Granddad, to whom we both were very close, died just before we engaged and he would have loved to see us get married - especially in Jávea, where he is buried. In addition to that, we always wanted to spend an entire weekend with family and friends, being able to enjoy several days instead of just going to a local wedding venue in Madrid.

How many guests did you have?

200.

Tell us about your outfits.

Cristina: It was very clear to me that I wanted Inuñez to design my dress after I met her. From the very first moment she understood perfectly what I had in mind. Regarding my shoes, I wanted something a little different so I decided to choose a blue velvet pair from Flordeasoka (very comfortable by the way!), to give the outfit a special touch. I also wore my engagement rings. Gonzalo gave me a diamond ring the day he proposed and a sapphire ring at our engagement party. I also wore a bracelet my Godmother gave me a week before the wedding day, which belonged to my grandmother.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

One of the key aspects was to avoid Covid restrictions, such as number of invitees, masks or shorter trading hours. As we wanted our wedding to last an entire weekend, we decided to organise on Friday a dinner with our parents, brothers and grandmothers and right after that a pre-wedding party at the beach on Friday. We thought that only the closest people would attend, but two thirds of all invitees joined!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted to make our closest family and friends feel special and valued. Therefore, we gave every witness a small present: either a small necklace or a pocket square with initials. In addition to that, Cristina divided her flower bunch from Flores La Tartana and gave it to her three sisters and two best friends. We also gave our mothers and grandmothers a flower bouquet each.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

When we heard about Mariana Burak (a young Ukrainian singer that fled from the war) and listened to her songs, it was clear to us that we wanted her for the cocktail live music. When looking for photographers to cover our wedding, we fell in love with the pictures Ereaga Studio takes. Arantza Uriarte, founder and main photographer, is a friend of Gonzalo from school and understood perfectly what we had in mind. We couldn’t have chosen any better studio. For Cristina’s arrival to the church with her dad and for our trip from the church to the venue, we chose a classic Mehari from the company Mi Boda En Mehari. They were extremely helpful even arranging a test drive some weekends before the wedding to ensure everything went smooth on the big event.
