Tell us a little about yourselves!
We are a gay couple from Munich, Germany and both work as marketing executives in the food and fashion industry. We love to travel a lot and love sports (tennis, hiking, skiing). We are happy that Germany legalized gay marriage in 2017 – this gave us the opportunity to officially seal our love and to start building a family which will hopefully grow soon.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Italy is among our most favourite countries that we have travelled individually and as a couple for many times. The landscape and the atmosphere of the Val d’Orcia is breathtaking and like a fairytale. We fell in love with the region a couple of years ago and already told ourselves back then that this region would be the perfect place for our wedding.
It was also very important for us to take our guests to a special place that would create long-lasting memories. A whole weekend to remember – you only get that with a destination wedding.
How many guests did you have?
We had 82 adults and 10 children present.
Tell us about your outfits.
It was a big discussion between us if we should wear the same suit or not – as we wanted to have a fitting outfit and yet underline our individuality. Thanks to an amazing service at the Prada boutique in Munich we finally picked two dark-blue suits that reflected contemporary and classical elements. The shoes were different – Philipp was wearing more contemporary shiny Prada shoes while Florian picked Saint Laurent’s classics.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
The most important part for us was to have a unique and special planning phase. We wanted to work with vendors who really were into their profession and with whom we could also build a personal relationship, such as our photographer Giuseppe Marano. As we started planning our wedding in the middle of the pandemic, we found a wedding industry was very shaken. Nevertheless, every vendor we picked was really happy to plan our wedding and navigate with us through these special times. We felt that everyone really wanted to make our big day happen with their full support from the bottom of their hearts.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
It was very important for us to show our full gratitude to our family and friends. They are the ones unconditionally supporting us every day. Therefore, every guest received a handwritten letter prio to the ceremony which reflected the friendship and the gratitude we have for the respective person. The letters triggered a lot of emotions – already prior to the start of the ceremony!
Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?
It has been a true rollercoaster and with the case numbers going up and down during the whole planning phase of 18 months was quite a challenge however, it also made us stronger as a couple. In the end we were so grateful that our big day actually happened that we didn’t even dare to get lost in any groomzilla freak outs about minor details!
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Cecilia Righini – our wedding planner- was truly amazing. She made our two planning trips to Tuscany a wonderful experience itself. She introduced us to hand-picked vendors and quickly understood our style, our needs and our taste. She was very hands-on while being a lovely and competent sparring partner.
