Real Wedding | Inna + Evan

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Evan and I met at a mutual friend’s wedding we were both working 7 years ago. I was the photographer and he was the DJ. It took a few more years before we bumped into each other again and eventually started dating! Evan is a lover of fashion, sports, and music. And I have a passion for photography, travel, and hiking. We live in Toronto with our goldendoodle, Ella.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We decided to legally get married at our home in Toronto, and have our dream wedding reception overseas. We wanted a wedding that represented who we are, so we took inspiration from our previous travels together. We loved the excitement of experiencing a new place together, and wanted to replicate that feeling for our wedding with our closest family and friends.

The idea of Paris was a spontaneous one that started on a random drive one day, but I think we chose it because we were inspired by the idea of a city with plenty of history, charm, culture, and good wine and cheese.

How many guests did you have?

13.

What was your budget?

CA$25,000.

Tell us about your outfits.

Being the fashion nerd that he is, Evan didn’t want to just find a regular suit for “the most important fit of his life”. He took the time to find everything he was wearing piece by piece over the course of a year. The first thing he found were Issey Miyake pleated pants, so the rest of the outfit started to come together centered around those. The dress shirt was a second hand find at consignment store I Miss You Man, the blazer was from the Arc'teryx Veilance Collection (Evan’s favorite outdoor gear brand), and the Prada bolo tie and shoes were pieces he has always dreamed of wearing.

For me (Inna), I hoped to find an outfit that matched the atmosphere of Paris. I was looking for something with old European charm and a bit of vintage flare. I actually found the crowned veil from Kamperett before the dress and fell in love with it. When I eventually found my Love Honor wedding dress from Loversland, I was so happy that it all fit together. Just like Evan, I also bought my dream shoes from Dior that I could wear over and over again after the wedding day!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Keeping it simple, and letting the magic of Paris be the backdrop. We wanted to focus on spending time and sharing genuine moments with everyone who travelled all the way to Europe for us.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

I love flowers, but it was a challenge to find a florist willing to do flowers for such a small wedding. I wasn’t sure if we were going to have any. Thankfully, our venue had connections with a florist and they were able to create the romantic, minimalist vision I had in mind with roses. We were also lucky enough to have a cute floral shop, called Quinquad Paris, a short walk from our hotel. They worked with me to make a custom bouquet with seasonal flowers on the spot!

Any tips for couples getting married?

I didn’t realize how little time you actually spend with your husband/wife on the wedding day, due to everyone pulling you in different directions! I’m so glad we scheduled plenty of time to take photos together and read our vows in private. I think scheduling those personal moments with your partner throughout the day is really important.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our photographer Nate from The Shalom Imaginative, travelled all the way from LA with us and we’re so grateful he made the journey. He captured so many candid and beautiful moments, and we will cherish our photos forever.

We also appreciated that our venue Hotel Grand Powers had an events coordinator set up the wedding reception for us, and made everything incredibly easy to plan from the other side of the world.
