Real Wedding | Jessie + Nick

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

After struggling to find a venue in the US that spoke to us, Jessie happened upon Hacienda Tamchen while on vacation in Merida and it was perfect. With guests coming from all over the world, we

wanted our wedding to be an exciting vacation for everyone.

How many guests did you have?

We had 50 guests and Sydney Smith captured our day.

Tell us about your outfits.

Jessie – I saw a dress on instagram and 24 hours later was on a plane to Austin, Texas to try it on at a trunk show. I absolutely fell in love with the Cinq Daphne gown and ordered it within 5 minutes of having it on. It wasn’t what I was imagining I’d wear but when I saw it I knew it perfect. From the pearl straps to the broomstick-pleated train that looked like rippling water, it was unlike anything I’d seen before. It also fit like a glove! I actually chose the venue based on my dress. When I put it on I just had this vision of a Hacienda in Merida with stone and water as the main features.

Nick - I’d had good luck with J. Crew’s Ludlow line in the past and this time was no different. The shawl collar tux was almost perfect off the shelf, only needing minor alterations to refine the fit. I with a green/gold theme for the studs, cufflinks, and socks. The shirt and bowtie were from Panoyan Tailoring in Santa Barbara.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted the event to feel like an intimate backyard party that would allow for all of our friends and family to feel connected to each other and the unique architecture of the space.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted the beauty of the venue to be a focal point of the event. It was important that all the elements blended seamlessly so our guests to felt transported.

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

Expect the unexpected! We thought we would have 75 guests, 130 rsvp’d yes and only 50 ended up coming!Try to enjoy the planning process! Also, isolate before your honeymoon. We got Covid 5 days before going to Italy and had to reschedule our entire trip!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

We had our friends do hair, makeup, dj, processional music, and officate. Involving people close to us made the day feel even more special because they were all there from the beginning of our relationship.
