Real Wedding | Kelly + Rick

Rick is an art director in advertising and Kelly works in marketing. The couple first crossed paths at a bar in LA in 2014 and hit it off immediately. "Our relationship grew through travel and we found ourselves taking many trips up to the pacific northwest. After falling in love with the surrounding nature, we decided to make the move north and settled in Portland."

The couple had originally booked a more traditional venue for their wedding. However, they soon realised that because of COVID restrictions, it would be impossible to celebrate their wedding as originally planned. "We still wanted to get married this summer, so we pivoted our plans and ended up renting our favourite Airbnb The Woodlands House, which is at the base of Mt Hood. We invited ten of our closest family members and had an intimate ceremony in the forest on the property. Luckily we had amazing vendors, including photographer Malorie Kerouac who were able to accommodate our new plans."

Kelly and Rick decided to remain flexible and take changes during their wedding planning in their stride. Because of this they were still able to enjoy their micro-wedding to the fullest. "In 2020 nothing is as it seems. Our wedding had many iterations however, because we were flexible we ended up having the perfect day."

Kelly wore an off-the-rack dress from Reformation and paired it perfectly with a bouquet from Brier + Ivy. Rick decided on a grey suit from Suit Supply for their laid-back celebration. The couple had local caterers Pearl Catering and Merit Badge Co. supply all the beverages for their celebration.

The couple had a very untraditional wedding.  They decided to forgo most traditions and structure their day in a way that it suited them. This meant no “start time”, wedding party, first look or first dance. "It was more important for us that our wedding day was more of a laid back gathering with our family." One of the very few traditions the couple kept was their wedding cake by Papa Hadyn.

Their advice for any couples getting married, particularly during Covid? "Keep it simple and embrace any changes that come your way!"
