Real Wedding | Laura + Timothy

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We were looking for something unique. Somewhere we hadn’t really seen before. Working in creative fields, we wanted the venue to help tell our story and Bundanon did that and more. As a venue, Bundanon is a location for artists to be inspired, create, and tell stories and weddings aren't their main focus. For us to be able to tell ours, there felt perfect.

How many guests did you have?

Just under 80.

What was your budget?

Before or after Covid? There was a noticeable difference, so we had to move with it. Including rings and all, just under $50K.

Tell us about your outfits.

Laura – Tim had discovered Mia Ateliers' Instagram and sent her my way, long before I decided to have something made, and how grateful we were to have found each another. I was inspired by another beautiful bride and her dress from a wedding abroad, so we worked closely to build on, recreate and adapt elements to better suit me. I found Ofrenda after looking high and low for a veil that was distinctively different – I felt privileged to have worn such a piece of art! Tim – I was after something timeless but unique that would be formal for the ceremony and effortlessly cool into the evening. The tuxedo inspired double-breasted suit from Mister Mister did exactly that. The fabric had a nod to linen for texture without the issue of crushing.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted it to represent the little details of who we are with strong attention to detail but also, easy going and effortless – a hard combination to achieve but one we feel delivered.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Apart from the venue itself, there weren’t any particular elements that took priority as we really wanted them all to come together naturally but thoughtfully. We hadn’t thought about it until afterwards but having a venue like Bundanon exclusively for two days with accommodation on site, allowed us downtime both before and after the day with our guests. This made it feel like they were really part of the wedding and not only guests for an evening.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Don’t leave the ‘little things’ until too late. You might lock in your major vendors a year or more out from the day and breathe a sigh of relief that most of the wedding is planned. But don’t underestimate the small details like printing your welcome sign, sourcing the right table linen, or backing up absolutely everything on a hard drive so when your laptop crashes 6 weeks out, you haven’t lost everything! Also, it’s true what you hear - it really does go SO fast – take a moment for yourselves, and slow down.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

If we were to do our wedding all over again, we’d have the exact same vendors, such as our photographer Damien Milan and florist Francis Floristry. We can’t recommend them all enough – professional, personable and of the highest quality. They all do weddings often, but none of them approached our day like it was just another job – we felt like they knew us and were at their best for us.
