Real Wedding | Liv & Dave

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We have been friends for 7 years and together for 5. Have lived in Sydney and Melbourne and most recently in Singapore. We travel regularly and are very simple people! We treasure our time with each other and our friends and family and make conscious decisions everyday to be good people.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We saw Maegan Brown’s work and knew we wanted her to capture our special day. I think particularly with an elopement, it is so important to have a special person behind the lens that brings a special energy, and we knew Maegan would be it (and she was!). So, when we found out she was going to be in Italy, we started looking for a venue from there. Hotel Cesar Augustus was magical. The hotel management planned our ceremony location on the property, connected us to our lovely celebrant and organised our cake and flowers for the day. We couldn’t have wanted anything more.

How many guests did you have?

Just the two of us.

What was your budget?

$25K.

Tell us about your outfits.

Dave actually wore a nice suit he had.

I knew I wanted to wear Van Der Kooij. I booked one appointment with one designer and it was with Natasha. She made me feel so comfortable as I was never interested in visiting a typical “bridal boutique”. She fitted me and turned my dress around in a matter of weeks. The care and love that went into the piece was felt on the day. Getting married overseas far away from home, it felt special wearing something sustainably and consciously made from back home in Australia.

I always envisioned wearing a bright heel, and red felt like a fun choice!

On the day of the wedding, Dave and I went for a stroll and coffee through Anacapri and we stumbled upon a local couple hand making beautiful earrings from and jewelry with local pearls from Capri. The husband helped choose a pair for me. The Corrallium Capri earrings were the perfect addition to my dress, and now I have a piece of Capri with me forever.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

It was so important for us to keep communicating about how we were really feeling when we began planning a wedding. We enquired with several venues and even went to visit some and it began to overwhelm us. When we did decide to get married on the other side of the world, just the two of us, everything felt exciting and natural. We aren’t ones to like the spotlight and it was the best decision we have ever made! It has to feel right, no matter what you do.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Because we were eloping overseas, we wanted to make sure we had pieces of home with us (Australian photography and videography team, Australian designer). Dave wore his late grandfather’s watch and I wore my late grandmother’s ring. We also wanted to make sure we got ready together on the day and spent time listening to music, laughing and enjoying every moment of the morning. We ended the day by jumping off a boat for a swim, not being able to get a taxi home and grabbing a local Italian bus with no shoes and soaking wet, carrying our outfits and flower bouquet and heels through the streets of Capri back to our hotel. We ate cheeseburgers in our bed in robes - not a fancy restaurant or meal in sight. So much fun!

Any tips for couples getting married?

We kept communicating about what a wedding meant to us and what is symbolised for our own personal relationship and journey. Just because a big wedding works for some, it doesn't mean it has to be what works for you. It has to feel right deep down. However you choose to celebrate your love, is the right choice.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Maegan Brown Moments and Luca Zarik Films are the perfect team to include on your wedding day. It was the best money we have and will ever spend. It’s the only tangible thing we get to take away from our day and we get to stare at them every day. We will be forever grateful for their talent, but mostly for their immense love and energy they brought to our day.
