Real Wedding | Margarida and Diogo

Tell us about yourselves!

We are two young parents who have been friends for ten years before we started dating. We both have the same taste and the same aesthetic for everything we do, and we love being out all day looking for beautiful things for our home but also laying on the couch and watching our favourite shows on television.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We wanted to get married somewhere that has a romantic history. I’m a very big fan of Portuguese Literature, especially Saramago and his beautiful masterpiece 'Memorial do Convento'.

The main focus is the love of two people who can’t envision life apart - and it takes place in Mafra! Furthermore, the aesthetic we were looking for matched the inside of the Convento perfectly.

How many guests did you have?

It was family only, with our kids, parents and grandparents and my brother. We also had our mutual

best friend there, who introduced us all those years ago.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Since it was a small civil wedding, and we are both big photography enthusiasts, we wanted to make sure that our civil wedding photos were exactly as we pictured. That way we could have beautiful pictures that matched our aesthetic and we could incorporate them in our home. The Lopes Photography and Catarina Inàcio captured our day perfectly.

We wanted to get the 'Vegas' meets 'old Hollywood' feel, since we are big fans of that aesthetic. I wore a Zara dress with custom sleeves, as my original dress didn't arrive in time and Diogo wore a Boss suit. Our formal wedding, that is taking place on August 6th and we are continuing with the 'Old Classic' theme.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Keep in mind that what is really important is the two of you. Because everything else might not go exactly to plan and you have to turn it around and make it work.

For example, because of delays in transportation, my dress didn’t get delivered on time. So I went to Zara two days before and had a lovely seamstress that lives down the street from my Nana do the sleeves. It actually turned out great, considering everything! There was certainly some anxiety in the lead up to our wedding however, I had to keep in mind what was really important and try to adapt.
