Real Wedding | Nancy + Weston

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Nancy is a wedding floral designer and Weston is a musician and works at a music mentorship non-profit called Songs for Kids in Atlanta. We met through a mutual friend in Atlanta four years before getting engaged in Highlands, NC at Nancy’s parents house. We live with our animal babies Binx and Zelda.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

I always pictured getting married on my family’s property in the West Georgia woods by the cold spring I've been visiting my whole life. We spent many weekends there with friends and family while we were dating and it’s a place that’s close to both of our hearts. It was the obvious choice!

How many guests did you have?

About 200.

Tell us about your outfits.

My dress from Leanne Marshall gave me ballerina vibes and just made me feel happy, it was the first dress I tried on at The Sentimentalist in Atlanta. I loved the short veil and how it looked with my long gloves. It felt contemporary and vintage at the same time. I wore some velvet ballerina flats by The Row that I got on Poshmark. I knew we were going to be outside and probably get a bit muddy. so I thought used was the best option. I loved Weston’s green suit that we picked out together from Indochino, where all the Groomsmen got their suits. Their ties and pocket squares were gifts from us. They were made custom by a local company called Craene Studio + Archive.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Because I am a floral designer, flowers were the most fun part of planning. Collaborating with another amazing florist, Taran of Taran Findling Floral Design, who brought my designs to life was a great experience. I really wanted to capture the season and chose a weekend when we knew the foliage would be at it’s most colorful.

But more important than the flowers was just having a party for our families to all have a great time!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

It was important to us to write our own vows, we’re both pretty sentimental and Weston is a writer so I knew they’d tug at everyone's heartstrings. Also, I was dead set on not doing a first look, as well as having a private moment for just the two of us after the ceremony and before family pictures and the reception. Our vendor team was very helpful in making this all happen!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Hire vendors you like and then trust them! Stay out of the details and just enjoy theday.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our planner Sofia Ocampo of Events by Sofia was a godsend. Getting married at an unconventional venue creates so many unforeseeable issues and she handled it gracefully and so nothing disrupted our time with friends and family. Also our photographer Zach Barron was amazing, his work speaks for itself.
