Real Wedding | Rachel & Kamron

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Kamron and I met when I was in my first year of law school and he was in his second year. We started dating about a month before the COVID-19 shutdown, when school and the world shifted to remote life. We were lucky enough to go on several dates before the shutdown – including walks around Central Park, shopping along 5th Ave, and afternoons lost at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

When the pandemic happened, we, like many other couples, got quite comfortable together. We’ll never forget the late nights playing competitive scrabble (and Kamron will never let me forget his triumph in one round with the word ~xenolith), blasting Motown and trying our hand at bartending. During the most uncertain times, it was incredibly reassuring to be able to lean on each other and find joy in the small things. We know that those few months created the foundation of our friendship and enduring relationship.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We knew from the start that we were going to keep our wedding small and limited the guests to our immediate family. Because of this, we had a lot of flexibility in terms of our wedding destination. We ultimately landed on France – specifically Provence – because both our families thoroughly enjoy French culture, food, and especially the wine. We knew that no matter what or how we planned the wedding, it would be beautiful regardless, simply because of the location.

How many guests did you have?

Twelve.

What was your budget?

We didn’t have a budget – but we knew we wanted to make our wedding weekend a really special experience for our family and we certainly did not hold back.

Tell us about your outfits.

Our rings were our favorite part of both of our outfits. For my engagement ring, Kamron gave me his paternal, great grandmother’s wedding ring, which was made in the 1920s in Iran. For our wedding bands, we decided to use family heirlooms as well. Kamron wears my paternal grandfather’s wedding band, and I wear my maternal great grandmother’s wedding band. Both of our wedding bands were made with Indian yellow gold and are simple yet classic. The rings signify to us the sentiment of our two family’s histories coming together.

For the Rehearsal Dinner, Kamron wore a custom-tailored charcoal-colored suit from SuitSupply with black suede Allen Edmonds Loafers. On the wedding day, Kamron wore a custom-made Tuxedo from SuitSupply. He also was wearing his grandfather’s Rolex DateJust – which his grandfather would wear every day. On our wedding day, we exchanged gifts, and I gave Kamron Rolls Royce cufflinks made by Aspinal of London. It was a tribute to his father, who collected vintage cars.

For the Rehearsal Dinner, I wore a yellow dress by Sonya Moda, an Australian brand, and Schutz pointed toe mule pumps. For the wedding, I wore the Savannah Miller Jacquetta Gown. I paired the dress with a Jennifer Behr black velvet bow headband, and Cornelia James black tulle gloves. I actually started with the idea of wearing a Bardot bow and black gloves and then worked backwards to find the right dress. I also accessorized with YSL platform heels, and vintage YSL jewellery from the 80s, which matched the yellow gold in our rings. I ended up changing into a black sequin midi Bardot dress and feather heels towards the end of the wedding dinner, which was a very last minute decision!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Our priority throughout our wedding planning process was to ensure our two families would come together as one. We wanted to make our wedding feel more like a family vacation with memorable experiences we would cherish for life.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Part of the reason we decided on a small wedding is because Kamron’s parents have both passed away. Kamron’s mom, who passed away more recently in 2017, wanted Kamron to go to law school more than anything else. It was because of Kamron’s mom that he pursued his law degree in the first place, so she is the person we attribute as the reason our paths crossed. We wanted to do something special in her memory and thought the Rehearsal Dinner was the perfect opportunity. Kamron’s mother’s favorite color was yellow, so we decided to do a full yellow table centerpiece, including yellow flowers and seasonal vegetables. Also, in memory of our many other loved ones who weren’t able to be there, we included a collage of framed photographs, interwoven throughout the centerpiece.  We will never forget the emotions we all felt sitting around those photos, sharing memories, and what felt like hours of laughter. That dinner was especially memorable because it was a six-course truffle tasting experience, which we were told was the most Provençal experience we could have.

Any tips for couples getting married?

The best tip we can offer other couples is to be present on your wedding day – it goes by so quickly, so just soak up every moment.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

We were very lucky to have an amazing team of vendors, all around. For starters, Stéphanie Augustin-Fayolle is truly the queen of Provence – she has incredible taste, and immediately understood our wedding aesthetic. She really went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend a luxury experience. We will never forget the amazing private tour of Château La Nerthe that she coordinated for our family the Friday before the wedding. We unfortunately had a few family emergencies arise days before we left for the wedding, and Stephanie more than accommodated us to re-organize many of the plans. Our wedding weekend ended up flawless in large part due to her exceptional organization and professionalism.

Nina Wernicke brought our vision to life with her photos. We absolutely loved our wedding photos and know that we will hold them dear for the rest of our lives. Our vision was only further enhanced by Atelier Provence, through the magic of Celine Jean, who designed both our Rehearsal and Wedding Dinner centrepieces, as well as the florals for our ceremony. For the Wedding Dinner, Celine added amazing dimension to the room by using baby olive trees as centerpieces, which we absolutely loved!

Our wedding day also would not have been the same without the beautiful music played by violinist, Pierre Hatat of Toi è Moi Music Events. Pierre’s music brought warmth to every room he played in. One of our favorite moments was hearing Strangers in the Night play as I walked down the aisle - this was Kamron’s dad’s favorite song.

Last, but not least, the entire Hôtel Crillon-le-Brave team made our wedding weekend unforgettable. Their hospitality and commitment to service excellence was felt by each member of our family. Kamron and I have already agreed that it will be our destination for all big anniversaries in the years to come.
