Real Wedding | Tahlia & Angus

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We grew up on grain farms just outside of Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia only 9km away from each other.

Knowing each other our whole lives, it wasn’t until 2019 that we finally connected after both returning to the Yorke Peninsula to live. That was over five years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Settling down and buying a property together in our hometown, I (Tahlia) am currently studying a bachelor’s degree in interior design and decoration whilst working in a local fashion and homewares retail store and Angus manages the family farm producing mainly lentils, barley and wheat.

Angus proposed on a secluded beach at Corny Point completely to my surprise in March 2023 and it was the best day of our lives!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

It was always our absolute dream to get married at Golding Wines. We fell in love with the winery when Tahls saw it pop up on her Instagram a few years ago and we have had it in the back of our minds ever since. The gardens are immaculate, and we have both always imagined getting married outside. Goldings is in the Adelaide Hills, just 3 hours away from home and we really liked the idea of creating elsewhere and a special space to revisit for anniversaries. Not to mention, they have excellent wine!

How many guests did you have?

We had 170 guests, a whole lot of love!

What was your budget?

We ended up exceeding our budget by quite a bit. I did most of the planning myself and as prepared as I felt I was, there were still many unexpected costs! We could not have done this without the help of our wonderful parents, and we are so incredibly grateful to have been able to have the wedding of our absolute dreams. At the end of the day, we think it was completely worth it and would do it all again in a heartbeat!

Tell us about your outfits.

As cliché as it is, I have always wanted to design my own wedding dress since I was a little girl. With a love for fashion, I wanted to wear something unique perfectly tailored to my body. I luckily came across Greta Kate very early on in my dress shopping journey to help bring my vision to life. Designing a dress with Greta was the most seamless, joyful experience. In my first consultation, she whipped up an illustration of exactly what I wanted and every fitting after that I had the honour of watching her bring it to life.

I could not wear just any shoe with this magical dress, once I saw the Dior J’adore Slingback Pumps, it was all over for me, I was in love. We went through a few hoops to get them to Adelaide as there was only one pair left in my size in Australia, we were very lucky to have a friend fly them back from Sydney for us.

On the morning of the wedding, my Mum kindly gifted me her engagement ring as my ‘something old’. I felt so grateful to have a piece of hers to remind me of the strong marriage between her and my Dad.

Angus’s experience was classic. He walked into M.J. Bale and bought the first suit he tried on and looked like a dreamboat! Paired with a beautiful pair of RM Williams’ as a homage to our lives on the farm.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We ultimately wanted our wedding to be one great big party with all of our loved ones. There were three things that were really important to us and that was that our guests were comfortable, full and had plenty to drink!

Golding Wines have a beautiful food and wine selection, so all we needed to find was someone to create the atmosphere and that was thankfully Him and Her Music. We really didn’t know where to start when it came to selecting music but Peter and Chelsea made the overwhelming decisions easy. We went with an acoustic duo for the ceremony, cocktail hour and beginning of the reception and we had a DJ and sax player for the reception which was an absolute hit!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

When it came to styling, I wanted everything to be timeless. I tried not to lean into trends too much, sticking to a very neutral palette.

I also wanted our wedding party to feel really comfortable. I liked the idea of the girls in black but I wanted them to choose their own dresses that accentuated their greatest features and make them feel 10/10 and omg did they ever!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Soak it all up and don’t sweat the small stuff! Things are going to go wrong on the day but always bring it back to you and your husband/wife. Look around and see all the people that are there to celebrate you and your love for each other.

If you’re having a large wedding like us and have the luxury of stealing your guests for a second day, absolutely do it. We were fortunate enough to get married on the Friday of a long weekend and opted for a Saturday afternoon recovery session. Your wedding day really is over in the blink of an eye, so this meant we were able to get around and talk to everyone without any pressure.

There’s no such thing as over-planning, write everything down and make sure that everyone who needs to know, has a copy. If you are not type A like me, hire a wedding planner! I absolutely loved planning our wedding, it made the whole 18 months in the lead up so exciting, but it can also be super stressful if you’re not on the ball. So why not have a professional help you ease the pressure!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

All our vendors were honestly such a delight to work with. I found most of them on Instagram, our photographer from In The Mood For Love, being the first we booked. I fell in love with her ability to capture the candid moments. Her film photography is what sold me! We also opted to have her partner, Alejandro there as a second shooter on the day as opposed to videography to really capture all the angles and our guests. Looking back at our photos is truly like reliving our special day. Hiring the In The Mood For Love team was some of the best money we spent and we are so glad we invested in preserving these special memories.

I could go into detail about every single one of our vendors and how they were an absolute dream. From Cody Bell and Jemma Millar Makeup Artist nailing our looks and making the morning so relaxing, to Shack Flowers and Fonde Creative nailing the setup and our star venue coordinator, Tori for bringing it all together - all our vendors were absolute professionals who really cared about making our day special and enjoyable.
