Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met through the combined effort of mutual friends and a dating app, and the rest was history! We share in our love of going to the movies, hanging with our families (dogs included), game nights with friends, going for Citibike rides (and rollerblades) around the city, and ordering in Italian on a Sunday night to start the week off right.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We felt that the High Line Room and the Boom Boom Room at The Standard were a perfect fit for our ceremony and reception, respectively. The High Line Room’s minimal feel let us focus on what we were there to do: get married. On the other hand, we wanted a reception space where we could party all night surrounded by family and friends. We thought, what better place for that than the one and only Boom Boom Room?
How many guests did you have?
Tell us about your outfits.
One of the most fun parts of wedding planning was dress shopping with my mom and dad. I tried on a bunch of dresses within a similar style, but didn’t find one that was exactly right. So, I went to Mark Ingram Atelier with one of my closest friends to try on Dana Harel’s Moe gown and fell in love with it. I paired it with a handbag passed down from my grandmother, who I miss very dearly. After the Hora, I slipped into Clio Peppiatt’s embellished mini dress for optimal disco comfort.
Seth wore a velvet brown tuxedo jacket from Suit Supply for our ceremony and changed into a disco-inspired silk Sandro shirt that we snagged from the clearance rack on a family shopping outing to Century 21.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We wanted our wedding to reflect what we hope our marriage to be: surrounded by loved ones, grounded in Jewish community and tradition, and really, really fun. It became clear early into planning that we wanted to do away with as many ‘wedding formalities’ as possible and focus on these elements. So, we swapped a seated ceremony for a (mostly) standing, high-energy one, replaced a formal dinner for a fork-friendly one followed by late night bites, opted for the incredible DJ Gil Fux and Yarden Saxophone instead of hiring a band, and asked our guests to wear their best Studio 54 fits instead of black tie.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Seth likes to throw a wig party every year for his birthday. Because our wedding was just four days before his 35th, we decided to turn it into Seth’s best wig party yet. Passed wigs on silver platters will be tough to beat.
Any tips for couples getting married?
If the wedding industry tries putting your wedding into a box, look for vendors who will work with you to try something different. Our vendors, including our photographer Parker’s Pictures were some of the coolest creatives we’ve ever met.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We couldn’t have asked for a better team and wouldn’t change a thing.
