Tell us a little about yourselves!
Ed and I met in a club(!) six-ish years ago while we were both out celebrating friends’ birthdays. My phone was stolen that night, so Ed couldn’t contact me—until he tracked me down on Facebook the next day! We had our first date the following weekend: a tennis match (which was quite stressful for me because I couldn’t play tennis!) and a sunset spritz. The date was a success, and we've been together ever since.
We live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, where we spend most of our time at the beach. Ed works in sales for a tech company, and I work in ecommerce for an Australian fine jewellery brand. We enjoy relaxing at home, going on long walks, planning our next holiday, and I’m still working on my tennis skills!
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
I always knew we would elope. The traditional approach of walking down an aisle and sharing vows in front of an audience just didn’t feel like “us” at all.
We got engaged in Paris a year earlier and were already planning another trip, so it felt only natural to have a small ceremony there and then continue our honeymoon across Europe. We explored so many beautiful spots in the city, but Montmartre felt the most romantic for the ceremony.
How many guests did you have?
It was just the two of us, along with our photographer Agata and our celebrant Angie.
What was your budget?
We didn’t really have one. We just chose everything we wanted, knowing it would still be more affordable than having a wedding in Australia.
Tell us about your outfits.
I wore a silk dress from Tove that felt uniquely elegant without being too “bridal.” I paired it with white Prada heels I’d bought in Paris just a few days earlier. My jewellery was simple but meaningful: a diamond necklace from Sarah & Sebastian, a gift from my mum, and a pair of mismatched pearl earrings by Completed Works, given to me by my girlfriends. It made me feel like I had everyone close to me on the day.
Ed wore a super dark chocolate-coloured suit with a tonal silk knitted tie from P.Johnson in Sydney. Honestly, he spent more time deciding on his outfit than I did! We worked with Harry, who was incredibly patient and helpful throughout all the little, tedious decisions, offering his expert sartorial advice to pull the look together perfectly. Ed couldn’t decide on a wedding ring and, of course, left it until the last minute. The day before the wedding, he bought a ring from a street vendor for 3 euros! It’s about three carats of plastic but created a story we’ll be telling forever.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We wanted our day to feel as natural and relaxed as possible. It was important for us to have a team we felt completely comfortable with, so there’d be no awkwardness and we could truly enjoy the day.
We didn’t want crowds of people watching or lingering in the background of our photos, so we decided on a near sunrise ceremony. It took me a little while to warm up to the idea of a morning wedding, but it was recommended by the team—and I’m so glad we went with it.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We both love Paris and wanted to capture the essence of the city—iconic places and moments that felt authentic, without being touristy—and for the photos to tell the story of our day.
We held our ceremony on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur, just us and the gardeners, then walked for croissants and coffee to refuel. Which turned out to be a great excuse for some fantastic photos, too!
One of my bucket list items was to get some photos in a photo booth, and lucky for us, there was one right in Montmartre near our shoot location. It added some fun to the day and is one of our favorite photos.
We were staying at a hotel nearby, where we returned to freshen up before jumping in an Uber to the Palais Royal courtyard and gardens—My first visit to the Palais Royal was in my wedding dress!
Any tips for couples getting married?
Do what feels right for you! It’s super cliché, but the day flies by, so take the time to savour every moment and be really present.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
In a full-circle moment, we discovered our photographer, Agata from Couplet Photography, on The Anti-Bride! I instantly fell in love with her work and reached out via her website. We scheduled a Zoom call to discuss the details, and from the moment we spoke, we felt completely at ease and knew she was the one we wanted to capture our day. We didn’t even consider anyone else! She understood my vision and absolutely nailed the brief, shooting both digital and film, documenting all of the special moments, details and cityscapes we had dreamed of.
Agata then introduced us to our celebrant, Angela Herberholz - Paris Marriage Officiant, and together, they were an absolute dream team, coordinating all the details for us while we were on the other side of the world. We filled out a questionnaire for the ceremony script, and Angie crafted our love story, weaving in French quotes and poetry—it was just perfect!
The one booking I struggled with the most was finding the right hair and makeup artist. Either they were unavailable or way out of our budget. I knew I wanted someone with more of a fashion background than traditional bridal, and after a deep Instagram dive, I found Tanya Fedorenko. She was an absolute angel, arriving at our hotel at 5am—maybe even earlier—to work her magic.
We can’t thank this amazing team enough and will treasure the photographs and memories from this day for a lifetime.
