Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met at high school in Scotland; got married after 13 years and now live in Leith near The Shore. Our small gathering was all organised by Katie with only family and close friends. Most suppliers were people we have known for most of our time in Leith which was really special. We all spend our weekends meeting and sipping coffee at Custom Lane, so it was very special that they allowed us to have our reception there where can continue to reminisce over future coffee meets. Our cake was made by a close friend, my hair was gifted by our friends at Stag Barber, our beer was gifted by our friends at Futtle in Fife, my hair pins were gifted by our friends at Bard and we were married by our close friend and talented musician, Nick.
All in all this special day only made possible by the wonderful people of Edinburgh and surrounding area who we have had the pleasure of getting to know over the years. Leith is and will forever be a home for us and on this day, that shone through.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
The space was a labour of love; we hung all the linen ourselves and placed the ceramics and candles out from our own flat! We told our friends at Ochre Botanicals (Marion and Sophie) to go with what felt right as we trusted their instincts. They took inspiration from our love of the east coast and hope for a ‘wild flower meadow’ feel and it was perfect. We spent the morning with our close friends Mel and Ross who gifted all of their time to do our photography; this was especially joyful as we got to spend our wedding morning with some great friends!
How many guests did you have?
Around 50.
What was your budget?
Everything including evening dinner at Montrose came under £10,000.
Tell us about your outfits.
We loved the opportunity to wear whatever the hell we wanted and we instructed our guests to do the same! By choosing wearable pieces, we have been able to wear our wedding jewellery, jumpers, trousers and shoes on many occasions since our wedding, which is really special.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
It had to be for us and exactly how we wanted which we achieved ! It was relaxed, intimate and joyful!
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Local suppliers, including our photographer Melody Joy Co, were the only way we wanted this to happen – and they pulled it off and worked with us so well!
Any tips for couples getting married?
Kind of cliché but do it your way and don't forget you don't have to wear a wedding dress or suit! This is an excuse to get that item you've been looking at but you'll ‘never wear’ - buy it !
