Tell us a little about yourselves!
We are Justin and Young and if our wedding was an indication of who we are, it is that we love to talk and eat. We share a love for books, music, movies and food. But our most intimate moments have always been around good food - from our first date, the proposal to asking her parents for permission, and so our wedding was going to be no different.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Young’s dad is a pastor, and it just made sense getting married in a church, as it aligned with our values. The Vine Church was a perfect space for an intimate wedding.
We wanted our wedding to feel like a big dinner party with our friends and family and the vibes were super important to us. We wanted everyone to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. As soon as we entered Palazzo Salato and tried their food, we just knew that this was the place for us!
How many guests did you have?
We had 150 guests at the ceremony and 120 guests at reception.
What was your budget?
Our budget for the wedding was 65K.
Tell us about your outfits.
With 3 months to plan our wedding – I purchased my dress online from MyTheresa. It was a simple no fuss wedding dress, comfortable to walk around in. I knew I wanted my shoes to stand out and when I stumbled across the Blue Balenciaga’s. I just had to! My yellow reception dress was from Gauge 81 and I just loved the draping on it. Justin’s suit was a soft green one with a brown tie that he had lying at home. It was very him!
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We wanted it to be down to earth and genuine – from the lifelong vows we were making to the intimate conversations at dinner.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Good food, warm vibes and intimate conversations.
Any tips for couples getting married?
The most important thing are your vows to each other, everything else is extra!
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Dealing with vendors in the wedding industry can feel exhausting. They know you will put enormous amounts of money into it cause it’s your special day and you can feel vulnerable to their tactics all whilst them saying ‘it’s not about the money’.
But I genuinely believe for DJ Ren it wasn’t about the money. He genuinely looked out for us, made sure we were comfortably in budget and above all, put on a great show. There’s nothing like feeling nervous about planning the seating arrangement hoping people get along then seeing everyone boogie together and get loose cause of the hectic set. A huge shout to Dj Ren.
Marani Deli is a small Italian deli in Newtown who is run by Alex, a former chef at Café Paci. We stumbled across their storefront as we drove past, and we received so many compliments from our friends – for a reason! They brought authentic Italian snacks at a reasonable price. And Alex’s grandma’s cookies were to die for. They were super generous with their portions and all the remaining food was donated to the homeless ministry at The Vine Church.
Katherine from Palazzo Salato was so catering to our food requests, such a cool calm and collected girl manager which made the whole process stress-free! She knows what she is doing and does it well.
Isla from Emotions and Math was the cutest girl I have ever met. I love her style and detailed eye, which was brought out through our photos. It was so easy to work with her and she made us feel very comfortable! Couldn’t have been happier with how the photos turned out.
And lastly, our florists Jules and Yen from Studio Sonder were so accommodating. I felt like I was talking to one of my close friends as we were constantly going back and forth with mood boards and colour schemes. They really outdid themselves and the centrepiece was everything that I had ever wanted!
